It looks like the holiday season is bringing “good tidings and cheer” early to Alfa Romeo brand.
In its inaugural model year, the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia mid-size premium sedan has earned the following awards:
· 2017 Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) rating** from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)
· Motor Trend’s 2018 Car of the Year®
· Car and Driver 10Best for 2018
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the premium mid-size sedan achieved the highest possible rating in each of the five tests used by IIHS to evaluate crashworthiness; and its Forward Collision Warning-Plus with Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) technology earns “superior” rating from IIHS.
The brand being recognize by IIHS illustrates the team’s commitment to performance, safety and quality.
“The Giulia represents the height of Alfa Romeo engineering and technology so no effort was spared when it came to the vehicle’s performance and safety features,” Reid Bigland, Head of Alfa Romeo, said.
The TSP+ designation is contingent upon achieving ratings of “good” in five IIHS crashworthiness evaluations. The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia achieves “good,” the highest possible rating, in each.
To achieve the 2017 TSP+ designation, vehicles must also perform well in IIHS’ Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system and Headlamp evaluations. The Giulia achieved a rating of “superior,” the highest possible rating for AEB, as well as a “good” rating for headlamps, which is also the highest rating.
“The Giulia represents the height of Alfa Romeo engineering and technology so no effort was spared when it came to the vehicle’s performance and safety features,” Reid Bigland, Head of Alfa Romeo, said. “We’re honored to receive this award from IIHS as it shows our commitment to creating state-of-the-art vehicles.”
Car of the Year
After evaluating 26 models with 46 variants, Motor Trend selected Alfa Romeo Giulia as its 2018 Car of the Year®.
The 70th annual Motor Trend Car of the Year award honors the vehicle that best represents advancement in design, engineering excellence, safety, efficiency, value and performance of intended function.
“Motor Trend’s judges agreed that the Alfa Romeo Giulia is the new ultimate driving machine,” said Ed Loh, Motor Trend Editor-in-Chief. “Alfa Romeo developed a car that is perhaps the finest handling sedan on the market.”
Motor Trend judges evaluated the “Of the Year” contenders against six key criteria:
Advancement in design
The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia best represents these six key elements, which also characterize what consumers most want in their next vehicle.
The editors of Car and Driver named the Alfa Romeo Giulia, including the record-breaking Giulia Quadrifoglio, to its annual “10Best Cars” list for 2018, recognizing the best cars on the market under $80,000.
Alfa Romeo Giulia and Giulia Ti models deliver seductive Italian style and craftsmanship to the premium mid-size sedan segment.
“High-fidelity steering and innately easy response define the Giulia as it comes to life in your hands. The efforts are never high, but a deliberate grip on the wheel is required as the Alfa shifts and pulls, subtly but faithfully exposing where there’s grip and where there’s none,” said Car and Driver. “Acceleration comes earlier and earlier as confidence builds. And even with iron rotors, our car’s brakes never fatigued.”
The most awarded sedan of the year, the all-new Alfa Romeo Giulia reinvents the premium mid-size sedan segment with an unprecedented level of Italian craftsmanship, class-leading performance, state-of-the-art technology and a true passion for driving.
